Managing Director of Fire (Fire Chief)

Garland, TX (226,876) Managing Director of Fire (Fire Chief).  The City of Garland, TX, a prominent Dallas metropolitan area community, seeks a progressive leader to serve as Managing Director of its Fire Department (Fire Chief).  The successful candidate will lead a full-service fire department with an authorized staff of 255 and a 2011-12 budget of $27 million.  Personnel are assigned among 11 stations and an administration facility.  Direct reports include Assistant Chiefs for Operations, Budget and Communications, and Administration; Battalion Chief responsible for EMS and Training and a Captain responsible for Fire Prevention and Investigation.  Position is responsible for managing and directing the operations of the Fire Department to provide exceptional standards of service.  Serves as an integral member of the Management Team (Cabinet) of the City.  Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with City management, employees and citizens. Maintains effective public relations and handles related community issues as necessary. Establishes departmental goals, long-range plans, objectives, policies, directives, regulations and standard operating procedures based on the needs of the City and the Fire Department.  Oversees and administers budget preparation for the Fire Department.    The position requires extensive knowledge of municipal fire department operations and practices,  Federal, State and Local laws and regulations as they apply to the Fire Department.   Minimum requirements include a proven record of progressively responsible experience in the fire service, including experience as a chief, deputy or assistant chief in a fire department of comparable size and complexity.
